Fogging is the visible part of mosquito control, and usually the smallest
A vector programme that cannot say where the mosquitoes are breeding, which species are present or whether last week’s spray worked is spending money without evidence. Surveillance, source mapping and efficacy checks are what turn fogging into control.
This track covers adult and larval surveillance, the standard larval indices, GIS programme mapping, ULV calibration and efficacy assessment, larvicide rotation under GCC heat, and the public health reporting municipalities and health authorities expect.

Six modules, from trapping to outbreak response
Every track builds on the Level 1 Foundation Certificate, which covers IPM, pest biology and inspection, pesticide science and application, and health, safety and documentation. The mosquito & midge modules then add the following.

- Trap types: CO₂ traps, BG-Sentinel and light traps
- Trap placement, collection frequency and species sorting

- Larval habitats: stagnant water, drains, tyre dumps and construction sites
- Larval dipping technique and density estimation

Programme mapping
- GIS-based programme mapping for vector control areas
- Treatment zones: source areas vs adult activity zones
- Mapping tools available to GCC vector control teams

Module 04 · Sector
ULV adulticiding
- ULV calibration: flow rate, droplet size and output
- Vehicle-mounted vs handheld ULV
- Conditions for effective ULV: wind, temperature and timing
- Post-spray efficacy and knockdown assessment
Module 05 · Sector
Larviciding
- Larvicides: Bti, spinosad and temephos, rates and timing
- Application by hand, backpack, drone and vehicle
- Residual activity under GCC heat
- Rotating larvicide classes to manage resistance
Module 06 · Advanced
Public health and outbreak response
- Key GCC vector-borne diseases: dengue, malaria and Rift Valley fever
- Public health reporting: MOH and municipal standards
- Outbreak response protocols and escalation
- Communicating vector risk and results to authorities
Species in this track
Certified Mosquito & Midge Technician
Awarded on completion of the track and its field practicum. The certificate renews every two years and carries 4 CEU.
